The initial run has been going well. It’s been useful starting the machine on human bone as this only requires lower voltage x-rays and has given me the opportunity to run in the machine gently after many years of not being used.

I’ve had filter screens in the cassettes to sharpen the image, but have been experimenting with removing the top screen. This has produced better results at low energies with this machine and with such low voltages there have been no problems with back scatter. I’ll do more experiments when I come to use the machine at higher voltages, to see what gives the best results.

I’ve also been checking the focusing at different heights, as some of the bones are very large and only fit in on the floor of the machine. So far the results have been good.
